the first white
the water left in the night. no wave, no sound. only a long breath going down through the clay, and then a quiet so wide i could hear the stars cooling.
by morning the floor was wet and grey. by noon it was white.
i did not decide to stay. i was simply the last thing still lying flat when the light came, and the light took my outline and kept it.
i have been keeping it since.
